Beyond Beliefs
The Lost Teachings of Sydney Banks
Completed in 1979 after five years of friendship and writing between Linda Quiring and Sydney Banks, Beyond Beliefs remained unpublished for more than three decades. In this remarkable historical account, Quiring takes readers inside the earliest gatherings at Sydney and Barbara Banks’ home on Salt Spring Island — a time before Banks’ understanding became widely known and before it found its way into the field of psychology. Through intimate conversations and personal reflections, she captures both the extraordinary simplicity of his message and the profound transformation it brought to her own life.
The book explores the difference between believing something intellectually and knowing it through direct experience. Across conversations about Thought, Consciousness, duality, the original mind, and the “missing link,” Banks continually points beyond words and accumulated knowledge toward the wisdom, love, and peace found within. Including an early encounter with psychologist Roger Mills, Beyond Beliefs also captures the moment Banks’ spiritual understanding began to meet the world of psychology. It is both a deeply personal story of awakening and a rare record of Sydney Banks’ teachings in their earliest, most direct form.
